Terni is a modern city, characterized by wide avenues and tidy streets, here you can perrceive the plan based on the typical Roman Cardo and decumanus; many buildings faces were built after the war, while some are much older.

The city center, very pleasant to walk in, reveals unexpected corners where interesting artistic monuments of the past and other eras show up. The main roads to go to find these angles are Tacitus Course, Old Course, Via Roma, Via Cavour and the grid of streets which they unfold, leading to important and admired buildings of considerable charm.

The Roman period is visible in parts of the walls and in the remains of the Amphitheater. In the beautiful Piazza della Repubblica is located the town hall rebuilt in Renaissance style in the late '800, after being damaged during the bombardments of the war has revealed structures fourteenth century. The adjoining Piazza Europa is dominated by Palazzo Spada a family residence, an imposing building with two floors and a mezzanine, considered the last work of Antonio da Sangallo the Younger, who died in the city in 1546. Also interesting are the other buildings of the city - Magrone Palace, Spada Palace, Fabrizi Palace, Roscio Palace - and two medieval towers, the tower of the castle and of the Barbarasa.

Tacitus Square, another cardinal point of downtown, is home to typical buildings of Fascist architecture: the Palace of the Bank of Italy, the Palace of the Chamber of Commerce, and the Palace of the Prefecture, in the center of the square you can admire one of the most characteristic monuments of Terni, the Fountain, designed by architects Ridolfi and Fagiolo (1936), rebuilt after bomb damage, with the tub decorated with mosaics representing the zodiac signs.
