It 'a spectacle of water and noise. In three jumps the Velino fills an altitude of 165 meters and flows into the Nera river. It is an artificial waterfall, built by the ancient Romans to reclaim the plain of Rieti and is currently being kept open for tourism and for certain times of day. There is also a nature trail which takes visitors up close, from below and from the lookout above. A wonder to visit at any age, especially for families with children. The waterfalls are closed for lunchtime from 13 to 16, if ou find ourself out at the time, note there are eateries and souvenir shops in the area.
The present building dates to the early sixteenth century, but inside the building were found parts of the structure was medievally decorated. Over the centuries and in the early seventeenth century it had been completely restored. In 1630 the relics of St Valentine were kept in an urn currently placed under the altar, in sight. The front line of the eighteenth century, is characterized by a portal in the lower band and a large window in the upper part. The interior is decorated in eighteenth-century six chapels where you can admire paintings of great quality and value: in the first chapel on the left of the picture Andrea Polidori’s Madonna and Child with Saints Lawrence, John the Baptist and Bartholomew, to follow in the Chapel Santa Teresa Madonna and Child with Saints Joseph and Theresa, in the chapel of St. Michael is the right place Arpino Cavalieri's painting Saint Michael . A staircase leads to the crypt where the remains of saints Procolo, Efebo and Apollonius are set and the museum where the artefacts found in excavations are housed. At the center of the choir of the Basilica is set the well where Valentine collected letters with messages of love from all around the world. The church is attached to a recently converted convent which is now a university campus.
The impressive monument stands between Guglielmi avenue and Corso del Popolo. The obelisk, composed entirely of cast steel, reaches a height of thirty meters and was built to mark the centenary of the founding of the Steel City. The final implementation dates back to 1995. Symbol of Terni’s industry, its positive aspects but also negative ones are clearly identifiable through the myriad of fractures, light and shade geometric shapes that characterize it. It was designed and created by sculptor Arnaldo Pomodoro and logically connected with the Umbrian city that host other works of the same artist (Dublin, Copenhagen, Los Angeles, Moscow ...).
