The MIC is a museum that amazes visitors. The path to the collections opens with an impressive installation by Alberto Burri, testifying to the great participation of contemporary art in the life of the Museum. The visit continues with the retrospective dedicated to the ceramics of Faenza in the evocative space of the former convent of San Magliorio that collects majolica tiles from the fourteenth century to Seventh-century: elegant artwork in 'archaic' style, ceramics decorated in the style of 'saffera', which includes the precious cobalt blue, Renaissance decorations such as Moorish Hispan, Love Tableware, Majolica porcelain, the decoration “in Berettino”, until the achievement of technical perfection in the “historiated” majolica, to conclude, in the mid-sixteenth century with the 'whites' of Faenza that mark the affirmation of the association between the words Faïence and majolica, which still remains. We then move on to the new building that houses the collection of modern ceramics, a wide-spectrum vision that includes Galileo Chini's refined Art Nouveau creations, the works of Domenico Chini Baccarini and the artists of the Upper Room that took its name from him, by Arturo Martini, a great interpreter of twentieth century sculpture, by Gio Ponti refined creator of porcelain created by Richard Ginori di Doccia, by Tullio D'Albissola, protagonist with Riccardo Gatti of a futurist season, then Angelo Biancini, Nanni Valentini, Fausto Melotti, Lucio Fontana, Carlo Zauli and many others, until reaching production contemporary. The visit continues on the ground floor, in the European section with an excellent sampling of works that testify to the artistic currents of twentieth century ceramics. Tribute is paid to the German Jugendstil, Austrian Secessionism, Catalan Modernism, French Art Nouveau and Deco, Scandinavian, Dutch, Central/European, English and Hungarian manufactures. In this room there is a 'museum inside the museum', dedicated to the works of Pablo Picasso, Henri Matisse, Marc Chagall and Fernand Léger. From 1949, and expressly dedicated to the Museum, it is the oval plate by Picasso depicting “The Dove of Peace”, to which the master attached a card with the inscription “pour un céramiste, here dit l'Italie dit The MIC is really worth a visit, nothing more than its collections can offer a complete vision of international ceramics at the highest level

Saint Vitale’s Church and Galla Placidia Mausoleum

Ravenna is renowned worldwide for being the city of mosaics, even if the Office of Tourism told me that this art was not born here but has been imported by the Byzantines.

Surely one of the most fascinating shows that I saw during my trip to Emilia Romagna is the mosaic decoration of the mausoleum of Galla Placidia, which from the outside looks like a simple church that does not really have anything to offer to visitors. The Mausoleum of Galla Placidia is one of the eight structures in Ravenna inscribed on the World Heritage List in 1996. As it was built in 425-430, it’s the earliest mosaic monument.

Just a few hours it will take you to visit the Mausoleum, which is close to the Basilica of San Vitale: they stand side by side in the center of the city.

San Vitale is absolutely one of the most famous churches in Ravenna, a true masterpiece of Byzantine art and rich mosaic of those that make the city famous worldwide. Basilica and mausoleum are almost in the same area, side by side, and it is therefore logical to visit both on the same day, at least to admire the beauty of the mosaics.

The most famous ones in the Basilica are next to the altar and dedicated to Emperor Justinian and Theodora, while a truly incredible spectacle of decorations is awaiting you in the Mausoleum.

Its cupola is completely covered with mosaics, representing 8 apostles. Over the door, you can see Jesus as the Good Shepherd, young, beardless, with flowing hair, surrounded by sheep. Inside, there are 3 sarcophagi, the largest falsely believed to house the mortal remains of Galla Placidia, the daughter of Emperor Theodosius, her brother, Emperor Honorius, who had moved the capital of the Western Empire from Milan to Ravenna, and her husband, Emperor Constantius III. In fact this building was the oratory of a wider church the Holy Cross.

The climate is very pleasant to go to Ravenna for, for example, a weekend out of town: near Ravenna in fact there are theme parks, nature reserves and the always crowded Adriatic Coast.

Riolo is a small town located on the hill of Ravenna, immersed in the nature of the valley of the Senio River and characterized by numerous springs beneficial. Already in ancient times, from the Romans to the Middle Ages, the therapeutic properties of its sulphurous waters were known and appreciated and that is why < b>in 1870 a real spa complex was inaugurated, able to combine the effectiveness of treatments with the pleasure of therapies. Since then, more and more advanced and innovative techniques have been introduced at the Terme di Riolo, having the properties of water as their centerpiece. minerals and clay like the one that flows from small basins among the woods called “volcanetti”. The sources, according to the specific properties, are extremely useful for the treatment or prevention of various ailments.
For example, sulphurous mineral water is suitable for respiratory problems, skin, urogenital system and joint diseases.
Salsoiodic water helps the genital and vascular apparatus and for osteo-articular disorders.
The salsobromoiodic waters instead cure the digestive system and the problems associated with it.

Also inside the spa complex is the Thermarium, a wellness area where you can relax using the Finnish sauna, Turkish bath and emotional showers.

There is also the Thermal Pool, structured so that anyone can enjoy it thanks to different diving heights, massage jets specific to the cervical area, without chlorine not to alter its natural properties and with a pleasant temperature of 34 degrees.

The Vascular Path instead consists of two tanks at differentiated temperatures of 34 and 25 degrees. The transition from the hottest to the cold one generates an invigorating and relaxing action that can be useful to anyone. Walking inside them brings great benefits to circulation, for example, and reduces the imperfections of cellulite and water retention. The Fitness Room is ideal for those who love sports and exercise. Bright and spacious, it features all the equipment of a modern gym and offers the possibility of having a personal trainer who recommends specific exercises for improving their physique. Opening hours and costs Terme di Riolo Terme Terme di Riolo are open morning and afternoon and with hours continued on public holidays. Some treatments have agreements with the Health Service. A daily entrance to the wellness center costs 39€ and for the afternoon stay only 30€. Use only the thermal pool has a cost of 25€ or for the afternoon entrance 18€.

How to reach the Terme di Riolo By car you arrive from the A14 motorway and then follow the signs for Riolo. By train you use the Bologna - Ancona railway line.
