The Church of Santa Maria Maggiore di Sondalo was annexed to the Benedictine monastery of S. Abbondio di Como and was the head of the Pleban Church of Mazzo. In the following centuries the church was enlarged and restructured several times. In the seventeenth century the old church, equipped with three altars, was partially knocked down and replaced with a new one. In the building there are a precious cross from the 16th century and many pictorial works, also coming from other churches in Sondalo.
