Each year, the evening before the Festival of San Lorenzo which is dedicated to the small parish church, the community of Oga celebrates its patron saint with huge bonfires on the slopes of S.Colombano.
Also visible from Bormio, the huge burning pyres are an attractive and exciting spectacle with flames rising high into the sky. The first bonfires to be lit is very close to the church, and gradually all the others in the area until the last in Tadeo.
The bonfires symbolize the fires lit up a time that the population at the end of the harvest. Indeed, it was customary at that time to burn a sheaf of the harvest and then scatter the ashes over the fields in order to propitiate the fertility of the land for the following year.
