The center of Dobbiaco is located in the Alta Pusteria Valley on the pass that divides the catchment area of Renza from that of the Deava. Due to its location this location can be considered the gateway to the Dolomites. The city has an ancient tourist vocation: the famous Bohemian composer Gustav Mahler stayed here during the summer season. In July every year the city dedicates a musical week to the works of this musician.

The old town is full of old residences and elegant shops and attracts numerous visitors. In the Graf Kunigl street you can admire the palaces of the '500. Among the monuments to visit are the late Baroque parish church and the Castle of Dobbiaco and the Trenker farm, document of peasant civilization.

Sports enthusiasts can easily reach the Alta Pusterìa ski center where they have modern and functional facilities. Dobbiaco is also the starting point for fascinating excursions, especially in warm weather. The town is in fact surrounded by two natural parks: the Natural Park of the Sesto Dolomites and the Fanes — Sennes - Braies Natural Park. In summer, there are frequent hikes and walks to Lake Dobbiaco and to the sanctuary of Santa Maria.
