Piccolo Museo di San Paolo

The Small Museum of San Paolo preserves the collection of works collected over sixty years by Monsignor Francesco Gangemi. The art gallery consists of about one hundred works and canvases dating back to the fifteenth and twentieth centuries. Among these are the canvas by Antonello da Messina “San Michele” and the “Madonna with Child” by Cima da Conegliano. Among the sacred objects are the works of the Messina goldsmith Filippo Juvara and there is also a sculptural room with materials of medieval origin.

Museo Paleomarino

The Paleomarino Museum was initially established as a cultural and scientific association, over the years it is enriched with scientific and paleontological collections collected by the biologist and physician Angelo Vazzana. The museum structure is divided into two sections. One section is dedicated to paleontology, which includes fossil finds from the past, and the other finds of marine biology. In addition, the Museum has video materials and specialized texts open for consultation.

Staiti - Churches and places of worship

S. Maria di Tridetti

Shortly before arriving at the town of Staiti, along the Comunale da Brancaleone, you will find a tourist sign indicating the direction for Tridetti. The apses of the small Church can be seen among the expanses of olive trees already from the street. To the tourist, the building declared a National Monument and dated the 11th century, is presented from the rear side. The main facade is facing the mountain (called Count Roger) covered by propellers and oaks. Further downstream the gaze is lost among the rows of citrus fruits and the colored stain of the oleanders.

Chiesa di Santa Maria Assunta

In the lower part of Piazza Umberto I stands the Matrix Church of Santa Maria Assunta, founded in the Middle Ages and rebuilt during the Renaissance period. The basilical-type plant with three naves has marble elements from the 18th century. Behind the high altar, there is the funerary monument in white marble erected by Vincenzo Carafa in memory of his father Giacomo. The mausoleum, carved in low relief and rich in ornaments, has been declared a national monument.
