Reggio Calabria - Churches and places of worship Cattedrale di Reggio Calabria The Cathedral of Reggio Calabria is dedicated to Maria Santissima Assunta and is the largest religious building in Calabria. This is located in the historic center of the city and is facing the wide Piazza del Duomo.
Staiti - Churches and places of worship S. Maria di Tridetti Shortly before arriving at the town of Staiti, along the Comunale da Brancaleone, you will find a tourist sign indicating the direction for Tridetti. The apses of the small Church can be seen among the expanses of olive trees already from the street. To the tourist, the building declared a National Monument and dated the 11th century, is presented from the rear side. The main facade is facing the mountain (called Count Roger) covered by propellers and oaks. Further downstream the gaze is lost among the rows of citrus fruits and the colored stain of the oleanders.
Caulonia - Churches and places of worship Chiesa di Santa Maria Assunta In the lower part of Piazza Umberto I stands the Matrix Church of Santa Maria Assunta, founded in the Middle Ages and rebuilt during the Renaissance period. The basilical-type plant with three naves has marble elements from the 18th century. Behind the high altar, there is the funerary monument in white marble erected by Vincenzo Carafa in memory of his father Giacomo. The mausoleum, carved in low relief and rich in ornaments, has been declared a national monument.
Caulonia - Churches and places of worship Chiesa di San Zaccaria The church of San Zaccaria is the oldest among the churches of Caulonia. Today, only the apse remains of the church with a fresco depicting a “Deesis” or a Byzantine icon in which the blessing Christ is depicted between Our Lady and Saint John.
