Giulianova a Coastal Town of Teramo Province

Giulianova is a coastal town located in the province of Teramo which is a part of Abruzzo region in Central Italy. Salinello and Tordino are two rivers on either side of the town. There is the historic town of Paese in the hills and the recently developed part of the town called the lido is located close to the beach of Adriatic Sea. As there are several beaches in the city, it is able to attract tourists from France and Germany as well as from large cities of Italy such as Rome and Milan. Economy of the city of Giulianova depends a lot on tourism. Its history dates back to times before the Romans came into power during when the tribe had a settlement by the name of Castrum Novum close to present day Giulianova.

It is during the Middle Ages when those who lived in this settlement moved to the hill town of Giulianova. It is a local Baron by the name of Giulio Antonio Acquaviva who built the new city. There are a few places of visit in this ancient town. Santa Maria Mare is a church built before 11th century. It is a brick work which has a bell tower that takes the shape of a sale. San Flaviano an octagonal cathedral built in 1472 is another attraction. Inside this cathedral there is a sculptor of "Madonna with child" created out of marble by Venanzo Crocetti. Ducal Palace is another attraction in the town and finally you have the Torre del Salinello which is a watch tower used to guard the city for protecting it from Turkish pirates. It has been built in the 16th century. There are also many festivals that are being held during the summer months which could bring in entertainment for tourists that visit this coastal city with beautiful beaches.
