Tortoreto: ideal destination for your holidays

Tortoreto is one of the towns which are located on the Adriatic sea. According to the latest population census, the town is estimated to have less than eight thousand inhabitants. The town is divided into two distinct parts: one is the old town and is located on a hill which is not very far from the Adriatic, the other is a seaside, commonly referred as Tortoreto Lido. Tortoreto Lido enjoys a long beach which extends up to the where River Salinello drains its water in the sea. Here the sea is very clean and it deepens gradually. Thanks to this characteristic both children and amateur swimmers can swim safely and enjoy themselves without any risk of drowning. The new part of the town allows tourists to spend serene and quiet holidays where they can enjoy green hills and golden sands. 


Tortoreto is a charming town that attracts visitors from all over Italy as well as from different parts of the world. The town was mostly a fishing centre but since Sixties, it has slowly been transformed into a tourist destination due to its attractive features and its welcoming environment. Some of the key attractions are long beaches, clear waters, palms and pine trees, such as a bike riding path which connects the town with the nearest centers. Very attractive are also cultural events, summer markets, food festivals, sports and other activities. Apart from offering fine beaches, Tortoreto is a destination which offers sports facilities like no other towns in the region. 


For those who prefer pool, there is a water park which covers more than twelve thousand square meters. Here adults and children can have fun through engaging in water games. Tortoreto's train gives the waterfront a whole new meaning; in fact visitors can have the possibility to know the town and experience its beauty moving by train. 


While in town visitors can also take some time to learn about its history. Here they can visit some of the major attractions such as Di Gennaro mansion, a famous building popular for being the host of one of the most beautiful botanical gardens in the region. In the town people can also partecipate to religious functions and in this way they can learn about the early church and understand some of the historical events in the Roman church. Among the popular features which stand out in the town the most famous is Madonna della Neve. The town also offers historical sites where you will find castles, clock towers, monastery and one of the oldest churches, St Augustine Church. At a place called Borgo, visitors will have a chance to see an historical centre which is more than four hundred years old. The structures which are prominent here include Madonna del Carmine, a church which is dedicated to Saint Rocco. 


Tortoreto is one of the Italian gastronomic centers, here people can taste and learn about different dishes, some of which are exclusive of this area. A tourist can sample Arrosticini, a delicacy which is made with pieces of castrated mutton cooked on a charcoal grill. Traditional Chitarra is another delicacy which can be relish in this town; this is an hand cut pasta which is made rolling in order to obtain a thin and flat pasta using a cooking device which looks like a guitar. The noodles may be confused with flat spaghetti even if the two have distinct features. 


Tortoreto has a lot to offer as a tourist destination, here one will lean about culture, see some of the wonderful beaches in the world, engage in sports and excursion as well as meet wonderful people from this italian region.
