Where? On the well-known wall of Alassio.
This monument is considered the most famous from a tourist and artistic point of view. It's interesting because until World War II, it was a simple wall in the public garden of Alassio. Later, with economic growth, the wall began to be decorated with different tiles of irregular shape.
The first was introduced by the American writer Ernest Hemingway in 1951. Currently, this rite continues, a bit like handprints in Hollywood. Here are many signatures of famous people (about 50) that decorate this pretty little wall. Particularly important decorative element is the work of lovers' Amoureux 'by Raymond Peynet.
This year, the award ceremony for the most beautiful love letters was held for Valentine's Day. The competition is organized by Maestro Mario Berrino in collaboration with the Department of Tourism and Culture of the Municipality of Alassio. This competition was born from an original idea of the Alassin painter Mario Berrino: the Muretto, in front of the cafe Roma, was the meeting place for young people, the place where they fell in love. Writings and love messages were posted on the wall.
So it was thought to place a mailbox to collect all the messages and letters. Hence the idea of the competition was born, as a tribute to love.
Every year, love letters are read and judged by a prestigious jury chaired by master Mario Berrino and Prof. Andrea Gallea and the twenty most beautiful letters are rewarded on the 14th February, Valentine's Day. Start writing for next year!
