Marmore Waterfalls

It 'a spectacle of water and noise. In three jumps the Velino fills an altitude of 165 meters and flows into the Nera river.

It is an artificial waterfall, built by the ancient Romans to reclaim the plain of Rieti and is currently being kept open for tourism and for certain times of day.

There is also a nature trail which takes visitors up close, from below and from the lookout above. A wonder to visit at any age, especially for families with children.

The waterfalls are closed for lunchtime from 13 to 16, if ou find ourself out at the time, note there are eateries and souvenir shops in the area.

Church of Saint Valentine

The present building dates to the early sixteenth century, but inside the building were found parts of the structure was medievally decorated. Over the centuries and in the early seventeenth century it had been completely restored. In 1630 the relics of St Valentine were kept in an urn currently placed under the altar, in sight.

The front line of the eighteenth century, is characterized by a portal in the lower band and a large window in the upper part. The interior is decorated in eighteenth-century six chapels where you can admire paintings of great quality and value: in the first chapel on the left of the picture Andrea Polidori’s Madonna and Child with Saints Lawrence, John the Baptist and Bartholomew, to follow in the Chapel Santa Teresa Madonna and Child with Saints Joseph and Theresa, in the chapel of St. Michael is the right place Arpino Cavalieri's painting Saint Michael .

A staircase leads to the crypt where the remains of saints Procolo, Efebo and Apollonius are set and the museum where the artefacts found in excavations are housed. At the center of the choir of the Basilica is set the well where Valentine collected letters with messages of love from all around the world. The church is attached to a recently converted convent which is now a university campus.

One day in Todi, Perugia — a beautiful city of art

Perhaps I dedicate too much attention to Umbria, but I just can't resist them: all these beautiful towns, next to each other, that welcome gladly all tourists. Umbria is full of it: Perugia, Orvieto, Spoleto, Gubbio and many others who deserve at least a stop. As well as Todi, which I would like to tell you about.

Coming to Todi by car, leave it at the parking lot located outside the walls, at the Porta Orvietana, and take the cable car. It will allow you to avoid parking problems, visit the city calmly and admire the view of the surrounding hills.

The cable car stops in the Oberdan Gardens, from which you must continue towards the living room of Todi, the splendid Piazza del Popolo, which is striking not only for the fact of being beautiful, but also for be flat (while all the streets are all up and down). The square is also the heart of the city surrounded by the most beautiful palaces of Todi.

Here is also the Duomo, and not far away stands the Temple of San Fortunato where Jacopone da Todi is buried. The tower of the church is clearly visible from afar, along with the characteristic domes of another church, S. Maria della Consolazione (it's up to you to choose the churches to visit, but you can't miss these two). Also head to the Lucrezie Monastery, which from the cloister offers one of the most beautiful views of the city.

The origins of Todi date back to antiquity. Time has erased the traces of the Etruscans, but the Romans are always present. In fact, under Todi, and precisely under the Piazza del Popolo, the parallel world develops: over 5 km of tunnels and galleries, more than 30 pre-Roman, Roman and medieval cisterns, 500 wells from various eras .
