The easy excursion proposed takes place entirely along a comfortable military mule track dating back to World War I, and allows you to visit most of the Canin karst plateau. An environment of great suggestion and interest, characterized on a surface level by the typical grooves, grooves, trays and sinkholes in the clear limestone rock, which give the landscape an almost lunar. The area is also very rich in caves, cavities, wells and tunnels, including the depths 'De Gasperi' and 'Zeppelin', which exceed 500 meters deep.

As with the whole area, remarkable are the remains of the military works carried out during the Great War. In addition, there are many fossils in the middle part of the route.
The excursion takes its steps from the well-known ski resort of Sella Nevea (altitude 1170 meters), reachable both from Tarvisio (19 km) and from Chiusaforte (always 19 kilometers).

From the wide pass we walk in a south-east direction, along the unmistakable military mule track (Poviz mule track) that climbs with comfortable bends in the woods. At an altitude of 1600-1700 meters, now beyond the forest limit, the mule track gradually bends to the left, along along along the undulating karst plateau in an east direction. By faithfully following the track, with some ups and downs we take you to the base of the last steep stretch, which is overcome with some hairpin bends, finally reaching the Robon Sella, on the border with Slovenia: 1865 meters, 3 hours from Sella Nevea.

On the pass there are numerous remains of military works dating back to the Great War, testifying to the defensive importance of this site. The panorama also has a lot of satisfaction, being able to admire, among others, the group of Jof Fuart, the groove of Val Raccolana, Montasio, the various peaks of the Canin... Near the pass is also the Modonutti — Savoia fixed shelter, used mainly for speleological purposes.

The return takes place along the same path as the climb and takes 2 hours.

Discover the beautiful Udine

The first thing you will notice arriving to the centre of Udine is the Castle. It was originally built in the 1517 by the Venetians, and Giovanni da Udine resurrected it again in 1547. One of the most ancient Parliament Halls of Europe is situated within the Castle. You will also notice the Gothic-Venetian Style of the buildings with the elegant designs and the frescoes that decorate the buildings, such as the Palazzo Arcivescovile, the Cathedral and the Oratorio della Purita. The Cathedral is one of the city’s most important buildings and it is found in the Piazza Duomo. It was built by the Patriarch Berthold of Andechs-Merania and had a typical Franciscan structure. We can see the bell tower that was built in 1441 and the Baroque style that spreads within its walls. Walking to the south side of the Cathedral we can see the Oratorio Della Purita, the Oratory for girls. Udine Street’s are built in a way that gives the pedestrian an advantage. The needlelike alleys and the flat street give a nice atmosphere that will please any visitor. Besides the historical buildings one can enjoy the hills, mountains, spas and beaches as Udine gives the opportunity for anyone to do a variety of activities in any season, summer or winter. The coast gives the opportunity for someone to work out or practice any nautical sports and the hills give the opportunity for skiers to visit Udine in the winter. Finally walk the streets of Piazza Libertà, the most beautiful square with Venetian style on earth and visit the museums. First have a tour at the Friuli’s Ethnographic Museum which includes the exhibition and live representation of the folk customs and traditions. Before ending your tour go to the Cathedral museum to see the sculptures and visit the Modern and Contemporary art Museum situated within the Casa Cavazzini. Last but not least visit the Museo Diocesano and the Galleria del Tiepolo in the Palazzo Patriarcale and look at the 700 works, before making a final stop at the Ancient Art Gallery, which houses the arts from the 14th-19th century.
