The first thing you will notice arriving to the centre of Udine is the Castle. It was originally built in the 1517 by the Venetians, and Giovanni da Udine resurrected it again in 1547. One of the most ancient Parliament Halls of Europe is situated within the Castle. You will also notice the Gothic-Venetian Style of the buildings with the elegant designs and the frescoes that decorate the buildings, such as the Palazzo Arcivescovile, the Cathedral and the Oratorio della Purita. The Cathedral is one of the city’s most important buildings and it is found in the Piazza Duomo. It was built by the Patriarch Berthold of Andechs-Merania and had a typical Franciscan structure. We can see the bell tower that was built in 1441 and the Baroque style that spreads within its walls. Walking to the south side of the Cathedral we can see the Oratorio Della Purita, the Oratory for girls. Udine Street’s are built in a way that gives the pedestrian an advantage. The needlelike alleys and the flat street give a nice atmosphere that will please any visitor. Besides the historical buildings one can enjoy the hills, mountains, spas and beaches as Udine gives the opportunity for anyone to do a variety of activities in any season, summer or winter. The coast gives the opportunity for someone to work out or practice any nautical sports and the hills give the opportunity for skiers to visit Udine in the winter. An important aspect of the luxury life of Udine is the health treatments of the various spas. There is the Lignano Sabbiadoro, which are thermal baths and provide the visitor with the best health properties. Udine is a city that promises much for any visitor. You can learn about the history of Udine and have a closer look at the buildings, arts and designs that seem to come out from an ancient movie or a storybook. You can also go with your family or children, if you have and enjoy your vacations by using the waters, the thermal baths or even going for skiing in the winter. Udine is a promising city that will fill your mind with good memories and great time. This is one of the main destinations that each one should choose once coming to Italy. Cities can be divided into various categories: cities of art and industrial cities, cities by the sea and cities in the mountains. There are big cities and small cities or cities with the square and cities that, for some reason, lack them. Located in Friuli Venezia Giulia, the late Renaissance Palmanova belongs to cities with squares, but unlike most of them, its square is perfectly hexagonal which influenced its urban development. In fact, if you look at the pictures of Palmanova from above you will see the city in the shape of a star with 9 points. Behind this particular aspect of Palmanova lies clearly the story, in this case the Serenissima who wanted to have a point of defense against the invasions of enemies. This is how the fortress city was born, the common work of engineers, negotiatists and experienced military architects of the period. To be able to admire the mastery and human ingenuity closely, follow the short itinerary of the fortifications at Porta Cividale. Palmanova should be visited on foot: this will allow you to admire all its splendor and observe the palmarina life, quiet and calm, sometimes shaken by the few tourists or by the lively Monday market. You don't have to be afraid to get lost: so much all the main arteries always lead to the center square.
The shape of this Friulian city is very special. Its nine-point star shape is perfectly visible only from above, almost worth renting an aircraft to enjoy the show. The fortress city wanted by the Venetian Senate, was designed as a real military project with three circles of fortifications but in reality it was never used for the primary purpose, the defense of the Very serene against the Turks. However, it remained perfectly intact with the Monumental Access Gates in plain sight. All the doors have the same design: entering the street you pass to the main entrance and arrive in an internal courtyard, which in case of danger, served as a trap for enemies. At the top of the doors you can only get through external stairs. The main door where the rulers and their guests entered was the Aquileia Gate, and it is certainly the most decorated and most beautiful door. At the top of the Porta Cividale is now housed the Military Historical Museum with a large collection of military uniforms from 1593 until World War II. In the center of the city we see the Piazza Grande. A perfect hexagon that shows how carefully the city was designed. The Cathedral that overlooks the square was built in the '700 and is a beautiful white church. In front of the Duomo we see the Palace of the General Providers which now houses the municipal offices. Around the square you can see beautiful white statues at the entrance to the six main streets of the stronghold. With a visit to the Civic Historical Museum, complete your trip to this charming fortress city.
To the northeast of the Italian peninsula, right on the border with Slovenia, I visit the city of Gorizia in the region of Friuli Venezia Giulia, a city unique in its atmospheres. City with a slightly Hapsburg flavor, due to the long occupation of the Hapsburg of Austria who occupied the city since the 16th century for 400 years, it is a city with a thousand nuances. I start my visit from the most famous monument in the city, the castle of Gorizia. To reach it I walk a long ramp that runs between the outer walls and the wall of the castle to reach the real entrance. I then entered the 16th century Court of the Lanzi where I admire the foundations of what was once a tower. From here I access the Palace of Provincial States and the Palazzetto Veneto. I stop for a long break to admire the wonderful panorama that extends from here to the horizon, I remain fascinated and dreamy surrounded by the surrounding unspoilt nature and the sky of a blue intense. I end my visit with the wonderful Baroque Cathedral of Gorizia which, built from the 14th century, was destroyed during World War I and rebuilt in 1924.
The magnificent Gorizia in Friuli Venezia Giulia, is a wonderful Italian town that is absolutely worth visiting. Linked both to the Alps and the Mediterranean, Gorizia is the undisputed protagonist, where everything seems to conspire to give the impression of being in a paradise of wild and unspoiled nature. It is the ideal place for those who love solitude and contact with the open area. An interesting point to visit is the Palazzo Attems Santa Croce, which houses the municipality; they are equally worthy of a visit: the historic park of Villa Coronini Cronberg; the charming castle of 1500, located inside the ancient village; and finally the War Museum. It is absolutely not to be missed a beautiful historic ride on the train, which is part of the Transalpine and follows to Lake Bled in Slovenia, available from April. And for all those who, in addition to a relaxing journey, are interested in history, every year, in May, the well-known International Festival of History takes place.
This province is among the smallest in Italy but offers tourists an incredible variety of cities, places and nature to visit. The capital Gorizia was a symbol of the Cold War for a long time and still today the Piazza Transalpina is Italian and Slovenian. Beautiful castle, well preserved and with a nice walk around. Gorizia is a very green city, full of parks and tree-lined avenues and was called the Austrian Nice by the admirers in recent centuries. Grado, the island of the sun, is a renowned and elegant tourist resort. The beach with fine sand, the spa park, the lagoon and the city itself are very nice and pleasant to stay. Other places of interest are Fogliano Redipuglia, the most important military shrine with the remains of 100,000 fallen of the Great War. Monfalcone, a modern and industrial city with important shipyards and the Fortress, of medieval origin, with the Paleontological Museum and the Great War Theme Park and Gradisca d' Isonzo, a charming village. The province has a large number of reserves and natural parks such as that of the Foce dell'Isonzo, along the river for 15 km. The Cavanata Valley Reserve in the municipality of Grado with very special wetlands of international interest. In addition to city and nature, the cuisine is also worth considering, a mix of Italian, Slovenian and Central European and the production of excellent DOC wines throughout the province.
Are you looking for holidays that can offer unforgettable moments in the company of friends or family? I recommend a nice trip to the city of Gorizia, in the Italian region of Friuli-Venezia Giulia. Here you'll find great fun options and great places to visit. The city of Gorizia can satisfy all tastes and needs. I recommend a visit to some of the most interesting tourist spots in the city, among which there are: the Duomo, built in the 14th century, and houses in its interior, beautiful frescoes; the characteristic Borgo Castello, erected by the Venetians in 1509; the Castle, which belonged to the Counts of Gorizia in the twelfth century. Meanwhile, for lovers of cultural tourism and arts, you should not miss a visit to two interesting museums in the city: the Museum of History and Art, which houses documents that tell the historical development of Gorizia and the Museum Set up, which speaks of the First World War (1915-1918).
A tiny medieval town perfectly preserved with a mill, two castles and churches. It takes no more than an hour to visit it all, because it's really small. You enter the village through Cisis, a tower shaped door complete with crenellated peaks. From the bridge you can see the Castle of Sotto, the Chapel of San Marco and the former pileria of the castle. The other bridge takes you to the Castle of Sopra and the church of San. Nicolò, the church of the village. In front of the church you can see the Strassoldo palace. The castles were of medieval origin but over the centuries they were repeatedly destroyed and rebuilt. The rulers and emperors were guests of the castles, the last were the Savoy in World War I. The oldest church is the small, white church of Santa Maria in Vineiscon with beautiful frescoes inside. The two castles are owned by the Strassoldi family and are not open to the public except on two occasions. Twice a year, in spring and autumn, the gates open for thousands of Italian and foreign visitors during the event Flowers or Fruits, Waters and Castles. The weather during open weekends is absolutely extraordinary and romantic. In the fabulous rooms of the castles a hundred exhibitors propose their works, craftsmen of forgotten crafts work during these days in the beautiful period environments of the castles perfectly preserved. In the centuries-old parks of the nursery manors exhibit beautiful plants. These two exciting weekends for incurable dreamers are very suggestive and special.
