In mid-May and exactly on the 15th of last May I decided to visit a beautiful Umbrian city that celebrates every year on this date the patron saint of the city with a curious and interesting event with 3 huge candles, which I can't wait to attend.

I take the bus at the station of Perugia and I look forward to observing for about an hour and a half the surrounding landscape made of rolling hills of lush green nature, and then finally arrive in the medieval city of Gubbio.

The bus stops right in Piazza dei Quaranta Martini at the foot of the hill on which stands the beautiful town of which I can admire its beauty from here.

I am going to slowly climb up the hill admiring its beautiful houses, typical handicraft shops and the locals intent in their daily activities.

It takes about an hour to reach the top of the hill, where there is the Basilica of Sant'Ubaldo where the three candles are preserved throughout the year.

The three candles all of black wood varying weight of about 300 kg each, crowned by the statues of their respective saints and grafted vertically on as many stretchers are transported & ldquo; running.”

The race starts at 18.00 when the candles are carried running on their shoulders by the ceraioli, who walk through the city streets and return to the top of Mount Ingino in the Basilica of S. Ubaldo.

In particular, the last section of the route takes place entirely uphill and is traveled in about nine minutes.
Attending this event was an exciting experience that I will bring in my memories throughout my life.
