Castiglione della Pescaia
A very famous seaside resort in Tuscany, Castiglione della Pescaia is also known as the “Switzerland of Maremma” thanks to the high standard of services offered and the quality of the sea and beaches. Castiglione della Pescaia is a typical seaside village in the Tuscan Maremma, in the province of Grosseto, appreciated for the extraordinary beauty of its beaches and the quality of environment and the sea so much to be rewarded every year as one of the best tourist resorts in Italy.
Of Roman origin, the historic center surrounded by ancient stone walls developed on top of a hill from which stands the Aragonese castle and some typical medieval towers such as the Lilli Tower or the coastal tower of Cala Galera.
Among the main monuments, testimony of an important past, we mention the Red House Ximenes, the Palazzo del Pretorio, the Church of Santa Maria del Giglio of medieval origin, the Church of St. Giovanni Battista dating back to 1200 and the City Walls built by the Pisans with 11 watchtowers.
In the surroundings of Castiglione do not miss the visit to the Etruscan town of Vetulonia and a nice walk in the Nature Reserve of the Diaccia Botrona rich in typical Mediterranean fauna and flora such as herons, flamingos, hawks or willows, reeds and domestic pines.
After a day at sea and sports, the evening continues in the numerous restaurants and clubs where it will be a pleasure to taste the typical Tuscan cuisine in the name of relaxation and fun.
