This weekend I visit a town that has always fascinated me, located about 20 kilometers southeast of Siena, the city of Asciano is famous to be located in the heart of the Crete Senesi, a charming territory with a characteristic hilly landscape, almost bare of vegetation.

An almost lunar landscape that leaves me speechless all the more because in this period of warm spring, the territory is tinged with an emerald green thanks to its light grass that grows soft and tasty appreciated above all by the numerous flocks of sheep that graze free.

Dissolved the enchantment, I decide to visit the historic center, of medieval origins that still preserves valuable monuments starting from the Basilica of Sant'Agata in which I admire a Madonna with Child of the Signorelli. Near the church is the Museum of Sacred Art that preserves a collection of fourteenth-century and fifteenth-century works.

I then walk along Corso Matteotti which passes into the heart of the small town overlooking the Gothic church of San Bernardino and the late Gothic church of Sant'Agostino. Finally, I go to Piazza del Grano that identifies itself in the beautiful travertine fountain by Paolo Ghini and in the facade of the Palazzo del Podestà.
