The Stelvio National Park, an example of uncontaminated alpine life between nature and food

The Stelvio national park lays on a wide area in the Central Alps between Lombardy and Trentino Alto Adige. The surface of above 130,000 hectares includes the Ortles-Cevedale massif and the side valleys: surrounded by other important protected areas (the Swiss Engadina national park, the Adamello-Brenta park and the naturalistic areas of Val di Tessa and Valdidentro) Stelvio represents an example of uncontaminated alpine landscape, where we can still admire a flora and a fauna unusual elsewhere.

Among the most typical animals there are the ibex, the chamois, the marmot, the golden eagle and the lammergeyer, towards which is working a reintroduction project.

Glaciers, pastures, wide woodlands, cultivated areas, mountain farms and villages make the park a destination available all the year: during the summer nature hikes are organised, while in the winter the ones who love hiking or mountaineering ski can arrange very interesting visits.
Valley streets and visible paths let reach without dangers the most striking points of the park.

With regard to wine and food, there are several little restaurants, inns and agritourisms in the park area; there you can taste characteristic alpine food such as polenta with mushrooms, butter or Bitto, a typical fatty cheese from Alta Valtellina. Other delicacies are pizzoccheri, bresaola and Alto Adige speck ham.
