The La Maddalena archipelago between Sardinia and Corsica consists of seven main islands and several smaller islands. These islands can be reached only from Palau, where you can find beautiful beaches and unspoiled nature. The entire area belongs to the National Park of La Maddalena.

The largest island is La Maddalena, but the most famous is Caprera, where is the former house, known as the & lt; Strong>"White House”, by Giuseppe Garibaldi. A museum was opened inside, where you will also find its tomb.

St. Stephen's Island is also known as a military zone, previously the submarines of the United States were stationed here. On the beaches of 'Budelli Island, the film “The Red Desert” was shot.

According to legend, the granite of the archipelago, which was mined in the French quarry, was used to build the Statue of Libert& agrave;. However, this theory has never been confirmed.

I was in this area in the spring, and I can only recommend this season. In summer it is too hot in Sardinia, where the wind blows of the desert are sometimes unbearable. Everything is brown and dry. In autumn it rains very often, but in May I found the area particularly beautiful, with blooming flowers, and the pleasant warmth.

From Palau and the archipelago you can also see Corsica in fine weather, which is only 12 km away.
