A friend of mine from the running group had spoken to me, but I had happened to it by chance, on the occasion of the race organized by the local group. The path led through the streets and the vineyards of the village, so I could notice the beauty of this tiny place and I promised myself to return there.

Barengo is a stone's throw from my house, basically I could ride a bike there, but since it was cold I asked my better half of take me in the car.

Barengo is not big; about twenty small alleys with old houses and farmhouses, but precisely in this is its charm. The silhouette of the castle dominates the whole village, which, being the private property of a well-known family of publishers, unfortunately cannot be visited.

Instead, you can take a walk around its walls that will take you to the vineyards of Barengo from which comes the renowned red wine that takes the country name. The best season for walking is autumn, when it's not cold yet and the vines are loaded with grapes. A real show!

Barengo is not completely devoid of historic buildings. In addition to the aforementioned castle, you will find the Parish Church of Santa Maria Assunta and, far from the town of Barengo in the direction of Cavaglietto, the churches of San Pietro and San Clemente.
