Pizzoccheri, noodles of Chiavenna in Valtellina
Chiavenna, in the province of Sondrio, was built on a large landslide, which was detached in remote ages from the south side. The rocks on the slope gave rise to the so called Crotti.
Between the cracks of these rocks by blowing a stream of air at constant temperature, both summer and winter, around 8 degrees, making it so warm in winter and cool in summer.
This cavity, not to be confused with normal cellars, are great for storing wine and other gastronomic products. Around these cavities the Chiavennaschi built small buildings with room and a fireplace where you are in good company and it makes an appointment to taste the local products: pizzoccheri, polenta taragna, mixed grill, baked potatoes, grilled vegetables ... all washed down with good red wine .
Crotti in Valchiavenna are more than eighty. ?
In Crotto Giovanantoni of St. John in Chiavenna a well-written in 1781 explains the spirit of these "inns". "It sells wine and keeps schola de bono humanity."
Cordial atmosphere in a scene on a human scale. In particular, during the first weekend in September Chiavenna the traditional festival takes place at the Crotti. Not to be missed.
