Let me introduce you to the second most populous municipality in Liguria after Genoa, which is part of the Cinque Terre National Park: La Spezia. Of great interest is the merchant port, located in the northernmost part of the Gulf of La Spezia, being one of the major airports of the Ligurian Sea and the main one of the Mediterranean Sea.

This beautiful city is part of the BEST (BioEthanol for Sustainable Transport) project launched in 2006 with the aim of spreading the use of bioethanol fuel.

In the central western part of the gulf is the Maritime Military Arsenal of La Spezia: one of the oldest and most important bases of the Italian Navy born on the initiative by Napoleon Bonaparte (who defined the Spezzino Gulf: “the most beautiful gulf in the universe”), an idea taken later by Camillo Benso Conte di Cavour.

If we talk about museums, La Spezia is renowned for an important museum center, known at European level for the quality of its works, with unique pieces from Italian military and industrial history including: the Museum of the Seal, the Amedeo Lia Museum, the Center for Modern and Contemporary Art, the Technical Naval Museum, the Museum of the Castello San Giorgio, the Diocesan Museum, the Ethnographic Museum, the National Museum of Transport.
