A small village situated between the Val Nervia's Dolceacqua and Pigna. The name is a contraction of the words Isolabona: isola (island) because the village sits on a small island in the river nerves, and Bona (good) for the proverbial warmth and hospitality of its inhabitants and the mild climate.
The narrow streets connect the two main squares, called Small Square and Piazza Grande. The first is an octagonal fountain of 1486, while the second overlooks the oratory and the parish church.
