Capital of the homonymous province of Campana, Benevento is a city with about 63,026 inhabitants. Legend has it that Benevento was founded at the hands of Ausone. However, it became world famous as a Samnite city. Fortress city so majestic and powerful that not even the ancient Romans managed to conquer it twice, both in the first and second Sannite War.

Only in the Third Sannitic War he fell into the hands of the Romans. In the Middle Ages, it was initially conquered by the Byzantines, then in the 6th century it was conquered by the Lombards.
