Ugento is a town located in the province of Lecce that belongs to the Apulia region of Italy.
It has its small harbor and depends on tourism, agriculture, fishing shepherding and food processing on generating income. It is one of the ancient cities where you get some of the old archeological treasures still preserved.
The town is located in a low plateau that has a level terrain except for a few cliffs that are protruding towards the sea.
This settlement has existed long before it was annexed to their empire by the Romans. However, it was after the Romans the port of Ugento received its due place as an important port. Once the Roman Empire fell, many invasions by Saracens, Goths and Lombards affected the city. The present day Ugento is a city of 12,000 inhabitants.
It is a very popular tourist resort with its wide beaches and the still shallow waters.
