Ugento is a town located in the province of Lecce that belongs to the Apulia region of Italy.

It has its small harbor and depends on tourism, agriculture, fishing shepherding and food processing on generating income. It is one of the ancient cities where you get some of the old archeological treasures still preserved.

The town is located in a low plateau that has a level terrain except for a few cliffs that are protruding towards the sea.
This settlement has existed long before it was annexed to their empire by the Romans. However, it was after the Romans the port of Ugento received its due place as an important port. Once the Roman Empire fell, many invasions by Saracens, Goths and Lombards affected the city. The present day Ugento is a city of 12,000 inhabitants.
It is a very popular tourist resort with its wide beaches and the still shallow waters.
There are plenty of hotels restaurants, pubs and bars that cater to the tourists.
There is also lively night life offered to the visitors.

There are quite a few interesting historical sites one could visit in this town.
Cripta Del Crocifisso is one of the interesting monuments that have lots of frescoes painted all over.
Serra Del Fontane is a place not far from the town where you will find a Church built in the 12th century. It is called Santa Maria del Casale and is a place you will find a lot of frescoes.
Angevin Towers of which one is presently used as a light house could also be seen. They have been built in the 16th century. This city folks observe many festivals as well.
One is the Fair of San Biagio which is held on the first Sunday of February.
On September 26 and 27 the Feast of Santissimi Medici is held.
