Bard in the stunning Provincia di Aosta is a tiny little village of just 135 residents. However, despite its small size – or perhaps because of it – it boasts some of the most picture postcard perfect sites and sights in Italy.
Thanks to its inconsistent climate, and its location at the north of the country at the foot of a mountain range, Bard’s weather is extremely changeable. Temperatures can rise to over 30 degrees in the summer, whereas in the winter is can feel as cold as minus 20 degrees.
The most famous attraction in Bard is the enormous fortress. The Forte di Bard was entirely rebuilt in the 19th century, and is a multipurpose site. Music concerts, art exhibitions, theatre productions, and historical information can all be found here.
And, as an extra bit of trivia, the blockbuster movie Avengers: Age of Ultron was partly filmed within the fortress. It is interesting to note that Bard is still laid out exactly as it was when it was formed in medieval times with its narrow streets and ancient buildings.
The wonderful village square is host to the beautiful Romanesque bell tower, and the restored Challant House is something not to be missed.
