The Cathedral of Naples is dedicated to the Assumption and it was built in late 1200 by Charles I of Anjou. It is of Gothic style and its plant is a Baroque Latin cross. The stucco decorations belong to the late seventeenth century.
Of particular interest is the Chapel of Santa Restituita, that is an example of paleochristian architecture incorporated in the present cathedral, and houses works by Luca Giordano and fourteenth-century sculptures.
To the right of the apse you can admire the Baptistery of San Giovanni in Fonte, perhaps the oldest in the West. In the Duomo, there is the Cappella del Tesoro of San Gennaro, which dates from the first half of the seventeenth century and was created by leading artists of the Baroque school.
Year after year, in this chapel commemorating the liquefaction of the blood of the saint. On the outside of the cathedral, you can visit the Museo del Tesoro di San Gennaro with numerous works of art and objects given in devotion to the patron.
