Palazzo Vecchio

Palazzo Vecchio - Florence's Old Palace

In front of the facade of the Palazzo Vecchio, the visitor can see various sculptures, three of which are the copy of Michelangelo's David.

Above the portal, always on the front,it is placed a medallion with the monogram of Christ flanked by lions on a blue and topped by a gabled frameThe inscription "Rex Regum et Dominus dominantium" was placed in 1551 for Cosimo I.
Inside the building you can appreciate the Courtyard by Michelozzo, with columns, gilded stucco work and frescoes by Vasari.
At the center there is the Fountain of Genius of Verrocchio.
Through the steps of Vasari one reaches the impressive Salone del Cinquecento (decorated by the Chronicle assigned to Vasari) and the studio of Francesco I, designed by Vasari.

From this room you come to the Monumental Quarters, consisting of several rooms full of paintings and frescoes: the room of Leo X (currently occupied by the Mayor and Councillors), the hall of Clement VII with the famous fresco by Vasari of the Siege of Florence, where you can see a detailed view of the city century, the Hall of Giovanni dalle Bande Nere, the halls of Cosimo the Elder, Lorenzo the Magnificent, Cosimo I.

It stands out dramatically in the palace, the Sala dei Gigli, defined in this way for the decorations on the ceiling by Giuliano da Majano and Francione, representing golden lilies on a blue field. To see, in the Sala dei Gigli is the Judith restored opera, a masterpiece by Donatello.
