One of the smallest republics in the world is located between the Marche and Emilia-Romagna on Monte Titano. It is also one of the oldest states in the world, it was founded in 350 by Marino, a flee from Dalmatia who was later declared a saint. The city-state is surrounded by Italian territory and works in close collaboration with Italy.
Visiting San Marino for tourists is a must, but preferably not in the high season because then it is crowded.
Shopping is a must in the many stores that display a lot of items at competitive prices compared to Italy. San Marino is not part of the European Community and is very well known for its stamps and coins. For one euro in San Marino you must pay more than the value indicated! Stamps and coins are highly sought after items by collectors.
In addition to the beautiful shops you can also visit beautiful monuments.
Two of the three towers are open to the public and in the Rocca or Prima Torre you can see in addition to the tower and the surrounding walls, a small chapel and a prison.
The Basket or Second Tower was built on the highest point of Mount Titano and inside is the beautiful Museum of Ancient Weapons with a large collection of ancient weapons.
The Third Tower, Montale, is the smallest of the three and cannot be visited.

the Palazzo Pubblico on Piazza della Libertà, the Palace for official ceremonies.
The Basilica of the Saint and the Church of San Francesco with a beautiful art gallery.
And from the cable car that takes you down, you have a beautiful view of the surrounding area.
