Ostuni, city of Greek origin

The phrase 'Tuscany is the most beautiful Italian region' sometimes seems to me to be the chorus. This time the cousin of my sweetheart said it. I clearly disagreed and after a brief, but animated discussion we came to the conclusion that all regions are beautiful and very different. To such an extent that they can't compare them.

It's the truth, because each region reserves the extraordinary surprises for visitors. It takes a little effort and willingness to discover them. And all this premise to talk about a beautiful and fascinating Apulian city, Ostuni.

Ostuni was also baptized the White City. Will you wonder why? It's simple: the houses, buildings and walls that surround Ostuni are white. Actually, one could call Ostuni the city of gold, because the same houses, buildings and walls are tinged with gold color at night.

You can observe it before arriving in the city, which is located on three hills at a height of 218 meters, is clearly visible from afar.
Ostuni owes a lot to the Greeks from whom he inherited the urban architecture, the white of the lime used for construction, the division of the urban center, the olive plantations and the names of some districts.

The Normans also marked it, leaving them among other things the powerful defensive walls with the towers. Everything creates a fascinating and enchanting creation with arches, narrow, winding and steep streets, steps, long or short, connecting the houses and alleys located on various levels.

In Ostuni you will find beautiful monuments (including the Cathedral, but not only), excellent cuisine and the crystal clear sea away from the city just 8 km away. And you'll also find a sea of olive trees, which extend to the sea creating a wonderful green carpet. It is no coincidence that the city is also known as Queen of Olives.
