Churches and places of worship Cattedrale di San Siro The Cathedral of San Siro is the oldest religious building in Sanremo and one of the main examples of Romanesque architecture in western Liguria. Located in the historic center of the homonymous square, it was erected in the twelfth century. the structure contains several paintings and sacred objects of great historical and artistic value.
Churches and places of worship Chiesa Russa Ortodossa The best known, and most architecturally original church in Sanremo, the Russian Orthodox Church erected in 1910 on behalf of the Russian community, then numerous in Sanremo. The project, by the Russian academician Aleksej V. Scusev, was followed by the San Remo architect Pietro Agosti and the engineer Tornatore. Consecrated in 1913 and dedicated to Christ the Savior, to Saint Catherine Martyr and Saint Serafim of Sarov, it was erected in the style of that of Saint Basil in Moscow and rises on an area dominating Largo Nuvoloni at the beginning of the Empress Walk.
Churches and places of worship Santuario Nostra Signora D.Costa The Sanctuary of Our Lady of the Coast also known as ``Madonna della Costa`` is located on a panoramic hill of the city. A place very dear to the Sanremesi, for its fame of protection from dangers and for being miraculous. In 1630 there was a reconstruction in Baroque style due to a sailor. The dome was built between 1770 and 1775. Inside we can see a decoration with marbles, stuccoes, painted frescoes and sculptures by artists: Anton Maria Maragliano, Domenico Fiasella, Cesare Procaccini and Bartolomeo Guidobono.
Churches and places of worship Oratorio dell'immacolata Concezione The Oratory of the Immaculate Conception is of sixteenth-century origins and represents a typical Baroque example. The construction was commissioned by the Palmari family. Inside we find numerous frescoes from the 16th century, emphasizing the baroque atmosphere more. Today the building is under the management of a community of nuns, the 'Daughters of the Church'.
Churches and places of worship Battistero San Giovanni Battista The Baptistery is of very ancient origins and was dedicated to St. John the Baptist. It has a religious structure from which you can easily notice the construction period, despite all the restorations undergone over the years. Inside it houses a large collection of works of art, coming from other religious structures, mainly paintings and sculptures.
Churches and places of worship Oratorio San Costanzo Over the centuries, the ancient Oratory was a witness to historical events in the city. Destroyed by the 1887 earthquake, it was rebuilt in its current forms in 1897. It was the custom of the citizens of Sanremo, to gather in the churches in difficult cases, to deliberate. In the oldest, dedicated to Saints Peter and Paul, perhaps the first laws were stipulated, drafted and sworn, summarized later in the Statutes.
Churches and places of worship Chiesa di Santo Stefano The church of Santo Stefano is a religious building located in Santo Stefano al Mare, on the western Ligurian Riviera in the province of Imperia. Inside there are some paintings by different Ligurian painters.
