Castrolibero - Churches and places of worship Chiesa di Santa Maria degli Angeli It was built in the fifteenth century on the ruins of the ancient medieval village. The building is facing east, an expedient to ensure light to the apse both at the rise of the rising sun (Sol Salutis, symbol of salvation) and at sunset (Sol Iustitiae, symbol of universal justice). Following the numerous earthquakes that affected the area underwent various changes that altered its original internal structure. The last earthquake caused the upper walls to collapse. The church, of which only the façade remains and part of the interior, is in stone masonry with irregular view and gray tuff.
