Magliano, Grosseto, Tuscany
Magliano is a Tuscany holiday resort, popular with wine enthusiasts and history buffs.
This resort is situated slightly inland, and the beautiful hillside town has so many architectural gems it's impossible to list them all.
The origins of Magliano in Toscana date back to the 6th century BC and the plethora of archaeological sites in the area are testament to its Etruscan heritage also.
The thick city walls around the town were built in the medieval period and are virtually intact, while buildings of interest within the town include the Palazzo dei Podesta, the remains of San Bruzio church just outside the town, and the Palazzo Checco il Bello.
The locally produced wine Morellino di Scansano is superb, and there are a range of vineyards within easy distance of the town offering wine tours and lunches.
Florence is just over 80 miles from the town, while Grosseto is the capital of the province and has a medieval history and buildings well worth checking out. The town is within easy reach of the sea and Talamone is the closest holiday resort and part of the Maremma nature resort.
Visitors will enjoy the wild, rocky coastline of the area and find a number of restaurants and farmhouses offering meals and agritourism while exploring the locality.
