Castello di Caldes

The Caldes Castle was built by the Cagno family, and in 1464 it was donated to the Thun family. During the nineteenth century the building was purchased by another local family. Currently, it is owned by the Province of Trento. The castle was restored and restored to its former glory. Inside, we find beautiful frescoes. Museo della Val Gardena

The Val Gardena museum or, in German Museum Gherdëina, is located inside the church of Ladins, a building built by the Union of Ladins de Gherdëina which is located in the center of Ortisei, in Val Gardena in the Upper Adige. The museum was established in 1960, and houses inside collections of wood carvings dating from the 16th to the 20th century, works, paintings, archaeological finds of the gardenias, minerals and fossils of the territory Dolomites.

Piazza delle Erbe

Piazza delle Erbe is located in the historic center of Bolzano. It was built in 1277 when Count Mainardo II brought down the doors and walls of the city and established a narrow and long square that became the economic center of the city. Fruit, vegetables and poultry are sold in it and in the center of the square there is the Fountain of Neptune, which the Bolzanini call “innkeeper with a fork”, which was erected in 1777 and replaced the previous pillory public for peasants.

Monumento a Walther Von Der Vogelweide

Walther von der Vogelweide is a monument for the beloved 'Minnesanger' of South Tyrol, poet and escort of emperors and kings, and is located on the central square of Bolzano. Only in 1901, the square was dedicated to Walther von der Vogelweide, one of the greatest and most famous poets of the Middle Ages. In 1935 the fascists arranged the transfer of the statue to a more secluded place in the city and placed it in Rosegger Park. Only in 1985 the monument was put back in the center of the square. In addition, the latter is also a meeting point for different parties, such as the Christmas Market.

Convento delle Orsoline

The Ursuline Convent, built at the beginning of the fifteenth century, in Gothic style, is located near the Gate of the Ursulines, through which you access the city. In the past, it was home to customs where the goods were weighed and stored. The tower that overlooks this door is decorated with different images and coats of arms, the most important of which, probably the work of the painter Hans da Brunico, was partially damaged during the enlargement works of the arch of the door in 1758. The Ursuline Crypt is the oldest part of the whole convent building, and dates back to approx. 1410.

Museo Mercantile

The museum was built in Baroque style and is easily recognizable by other buildings. He plays an important role in Bolzano as a meeting point between Italy and Germany. The museum is exhibited within the walls of the Palazzo Mercantile, which has had several roles over time as the seat of the Chamber of Commerce, the Merchant Magistrate, etc. The museum has a rich range of paintings, manuscripts of the ordering of the fairs of Bolzano and also the original furnishings of the first thirty years of the eighteenth century.

Castello Guardia

The Guardia Castle, together with two other Korb and Boymont castles, forms the 'castle triangle'. The building was built on the foundations of a peasant house, between 1125 and 1130 by Count Ulrich II. In 1270, the main tower of the castle was built. From the castle you can see the city of Bolzano. Rare of its kind, inside the castle, is the pentagon tower. The frescoes found in the chapel and the various paintings constitute many of the attractions of the Castle.

Residenza Tschindlhof

Tschindlhof is a noble residence that dates back to the Middle Ages. Over the years it was restored several times: the last renovation was in the '900, and it also gave the building its current appearance. It has the typical structure of the castles of the area: the door with the stone frame, the barrel vaults, the mullioned windows, and other typical elements of the style. Its current owners, the Von Mörl, turned it into an accommodation facility. It's open to the public.

Residenza Fortificata Breitenberg

Breitenberg is a noble residence of medieval origins that owes its present appearance to Georg von Pertold. It took its name from the title given to him by Pertold's father in 1609. The structure underwent several restorations over the years, but still remained the typical one of the area: the large courtyard, the door with the stone frame, the mullioned windows and the windows with capital. The current owners are the descendants of the Pertold family.

Castello di Appiano Diroccato

The origin of the castle is certainly not, but according to sources, dates back to the twelfth century. It was the second residence of the Counts of Eppan for security reasons. Currently the building is the headquarters of a homonymous accommodation facility that offers all the necessary services for visitors.

Chiesetta S. Pietro in Bosco

The Church of San Pietro in Bosco is a Roman church that is located a few kilometers from Ala. The building dates back to the 6th century and has a tall bell tower with cusps in Veronese terracotta and Romanesque mullioned windows. The story tells that in this little church Teodolinda, daughter of the Duke of Bavaria Garibaldo, met his future spouse Autari in 589. Inside the church there are some frescoes such as the Christ in Majesty and Saint George who kills the dragon.

Castello Tina o Gernstein

The Tina or Gernstein Castle was built in the late twelfth century by Enrico di Garro. It is known by the local population as 'Schloss Gernstein' and has a structure consisting of small towers with crenellated and well-defined walls. Its function was to control the ancient road that connected Bolzano to Brixen. After a period of decay, the Castle was purchased by Friedrich von Gerstein — Hohenstein, who gave the building a romantic imprint.

Castello Trauttmansdorff

The origins of Trauttmansdorff Castle date back to 1300 when a manor named Neuberg was built in its place. Later in 1543, the Trauttmansdorff family bought the manor and expanded some parts of it. The name of the Castle is due to Count Styria Joseph von Trauttmansdorff, who, in 1846, bought the Castle after the original family had left the building. The Castle later hosted the Empress Elizabeth of Bavaria making the fortress and also the city of Merano famous.

Castel Castellano

The construction takes its name from the location in which it is located. It was assumed that the castle was built around the thirteenth century. It has a massive structure consisting of an ancient tower and a residential building. Due to the collapses, the tower was lowered and therefore the original height does not match today. After the purchase of the Lodron family, it was transformed into a noble residence. It is currently privately owned.

Museo "H. Multscher" e Museo Civico

The “H. Multscher” Museum is located next to the Parish Church of 'Our Lady of the Swamps'. Inside it preserves the famous doors of the altar by Hans Multscher and some pieces belonging to the former Civic Museum, among which we can admire some coats of arms and chests belonging to the ancient families of the Vipiteno. Of great interest are the plates of Hans Multscher, which were lost during the fascist period, and only in 1959 they were returned to the city of Vipiteno again. Today, they are among the most precious objects of the Multscher Museum.

Chiesa di Sant'Anna

The Church of Saint Anne was erected in the late fifteenth century. On the portal there is the emblem of the Uldaric Vicar of Lichtenstein. The structure has elements of the late Gothic, combined with the Renaissance ones, the result of various renovations over the years. The interior was restored during the 90s, and during this restoration various architectural and decorative details never discovered before were detected were taken over.

Torre Massarello

Torre Massarello, also known as the “Arcidiaconale”, was built during the Middle Ages. It took its name from Angelo Massarelli, a famous personality in the religious world of the time, who lived for several years inside the tower itself. The structure has late Gothic architectural elements, while the rooms are decorated with frescoes and special ornaments. Today, the building is in an excellent state of preservation, and it can be visited by the public.

Castel San Pietro

In addition to a beautiful panorama of the Brenta Dolomites, the San Pietro Castle has a historical and architectural value. It was built by the Thun family in medieval style around the 12th century. According to Franco Lancetti, who did the renovation of the castle, the tower had to be 15 meters high and around 6 meters in diameter. Historical testimonies show that the building also housed the chapel of St. Peter from which the castle took its name. It was abandoned at the end of the 17th century by the Thun and today we find the ruins of the castle.

Palazzo del Monte

Palazzo del Monte was built around the fifteenth century, and is located on one of the most vibrant areas of Trentino. The structure has elements of the Renaissance style, but also of the Gothic - Venetian one. The building is characterized by the numerous frescoes on the facade, where in the center there is the myth of Hercules, and the famous trifora with a balcony on the first floor. The plant has undergone several restorations over the years, and today it is in a good state of preservation.
