Modica is one of the most pitoresque town of the
Ragusa Province and of all Sicily. It is set at the South of
Monti Iblei and it is divided into high and low Modica.
The first is characterised by a varied territory, once the typical inhabitations of the Siciliani, the lowest part instead extends over two valleys and on a hill and it is therefore full of ripid alleys and stairs.
The town of Modica has many beautiful historic - artistic, between those who deserve to be seen we mention: the
church of S. Giorgio, a splendid example of Sicilian Baroque; the church of S. Maria di Betlemme, in "Modica Bassa" , is placed along the course, and contains many works of great artistic value; on the Course you can also visit the church of S. Pietro, of '300, with staircase decorated with statues of 12 Apostles.
