For a relaxing family holiday, San Teodoro in the north east of Sardinia has it all. A former fishing village, it has over the last few years transformed itself into a popular holiday resort for Italians and overseas visitors alike.
Chief among its attractions are the numerous stunning beaches within easy reach of the town, with the 5km long La Cinca possibly the most impressive. It forms a long spur of golden sand separating the sea from a protected lagoon and nature reserve just inland, abundant with pink flamingoes and other fauna.
Another fine beach a few kilometres from the town centre is Cala Brandinchi, whose white sands and turquoise waters have led it to being christened the Tahiti of the Mediterranean. The town is well served by bars, restaurants and nightclubs with plenty to appeal to all ages, but don't worry - there is ample of opportunity to avoid the night-time bustle, and find a peaceful spot under a palm tree in a quiet piazza to enjoy the warm evenings with a glass of wine and a gelato.
During the day, the beaches offer perfect sunbathing conditions with usually a light breeze to take the edge off the summer heat, while wind surfing and scuba diving are popular pastimes. San Teodoro also has facilities for golf, cycling, and tennis for those looking for daytime activity.
