Castellero (12 Km)

Castello di Castellero trasformato

The castle of Castellero is located in the Province of Asti. The fortress was built in 1312 on the rubble of the previous structure, so it is a reconstruction in reality. Its name means 'castle wrecked'. Today, there are few traces of the old building, such as the windows, the moat and the base of the tower. Many additional interventions to the structure bear the name of the Ponte family. The tower, at its origins, had the shape of a rhombus and was about 30 meters high.

The Red Tower or Torre di San Secondo dates back to the 1st century BC. The tower was built in two different periods, in the Roman period and in the eleventh century around the 11th century. Cattedrale di Santa Maria Assunta e San Gottardo

The Cathedral of Asti or the so-called Cathedral of Santa Maria Assunta and San Gottardo dates back to the 13th century. It was built in 1266 in Romanesque - Lombard style. It is the largest church in Piedmont, and it represents a historical and architectural value in the area of Asti. After the deep restorations it was completed in 1470. Today the building has special decorative architectural elements of Gothic - Piedmontese art. The chapel has a height of 24 m.

Torre del Ponte di Lombriasco

Torre del Ponte di Lombriasco is located near the Church of S. Martino subsequently inserted in the installation of the Baroque palace that still contains it today. This thirteenth-century tower was the ancient residence of the Guelph family of the Ponte. The walls of the building are impressive and reach a height of 8 meters, while, originally, they had to have a height of about 36 meters. Of the medieval buildings, which occupied a large area of the block, today we have few traces.

The Civic Art Gallery of Asti is located, together with the Museum, in the historic Palazzo Mazzetti, which until 1442 had been a strong house owned by the Asti family of the Turco. Since 1940 the Palace has been the seat of the Civic Art Gallery which includes valuable collections. Among the important works, we must remember the tables of San Martino Alfieri dating back to 1400 and 1500, Michelangelo Pittatore, Giancarlo Aliberti, Guglielmo Caccia, and the section dedicated to Genoese painters from 1600. Palazzo del Seminario

The Palazzo del Seminario in Asti is a Baroque building, home to Asti ecclesiastical studies. In the seminary there are some paintings of particular importance from the 16th, 17th and 19th centuries including a “Nativity with Saints Bartolomew and Benedict”, the work of Gandolfino da Roreto of the 16th century. , an “Adoration of the Magi” by Jacobino and Giovanni Longo dated 1517 and the “Portrait of Mons. Torre Trojana

The Troyana tower overlooks Piazza Medici and is considered one of the most impressive medieval towers, perfectly accomplished and best preserved in Piedmont. Built by the Cortesi family between the end of the twelfth and the beginning of the 13th century, in 1250 it became the property of the Troia, who demolished the adjoining Palazzo Cortesi to build their new home, keeping intact the tower. Inside, a 199 steps staircase allows the visitor to reach the floor of the battlements. The recently restored Troyana tower is open to the public.

Complesso Monumentale di S. Pietro in Consavia

The Monumental Complex of St. Peter in Consavia is a Catholic church in Asti, consisting of four buildings dating from the twelfth century to the fourteenth century. Within the monumental complex, the museum preserves an archaeological section that includes materials from the Roman period that constituted the funeral kit of burials of the I, II and III centuries AD; a section Egyptian comprising wooden sarcophagi with related mummies, canopic vases, fragments of hieroglyphic inscriptions and a paleontological section dedicated to fossils of the recent tertiary.
