Among numerous locations located on the shores of Lake Maggiore there is also Cannobio. You can get there by car following the road that runs along the lake: so you can also admire a beautiful view of the lake. We chose another solution. Since in the morning we left Domodossola for Switzerland with the Centovalli train (the tour I recommend), and in the afternoon we decided to return by boat. The tour was nice and relaxing, also because the weather was wonderful, but after 2 hours of sailing I felt the need to touch the mainland with our feet and so we landed in Cannobio.

Cannobio is the last of the Italian resorts that overlook Lake Maggiore, before the border with Switzerland. It is a small town, but nice, with tradition dating back to the Middle Ages. You can observe it walking through the streets of the center, many still cobblestone, on which the buildings that recall the medieval and Renaissance past of Cannobio overlook. By docking on the landing you can see many houses painted in various colors, with small and decorative wrought iron balconies from which geraniums and other flowers hang. The first sight is so inviting that with pleasure you can dive into the city looking at the shop windows and observing other tourists exploring it.

A must have to eat ice cream or stop at a pastry shop to buy ugly but good treats. It takes some energy especially if you want to walk to the horrid of Sant'Anna; a fascinating waterfall, whose water flows through the rocks. Those who like to walk can go to Carmino Superiore reachable only on foot. The view of the lake that extends from Carmino and the church of San Gottardo repay every effort.
