The Marche is considered fully the green lung of Italy. The variety of the territory is amazing: from the hills, on which an excellent wine is produced, to the mountain peaks where it is possible to ski using excellent ski facilities ascent, to the sea. Porto Potenza Picena, has been certified since 2008 with the Blue Flag of Europe.

In the province of Macerata, a few kilometers from Recanati and Civitanova Marche, Porto Potenza Picena represents a of the most beautiful maritime destinations in Italy.

Its wide beaches, which extend for more than three kilometers, have little to envy the most famous exotic destinations. Composed mainly of fine sand, and in some areas of gravel that dilates into the native flora, they are the ideal place for a relaxing stay and equipped with every comfort, whether you choose beaches free, that one of the many bathing establishments. Comfortably lying on the sand you can see Mount Conero stand out in the distance. This image is the essence of the Marche, where sea, hill and mountains coexist in a few kilometers.

The waters of the sea, in this part of Italy are of a breathtaking blue color. Very clear and crystal clear, in addition to beauty, they guarantee the safety of children and less experienced swimmers due to their modest depth, typical of the depths of the Adriatic Sea. The bathing establishments, in addition to the classic beach activities, offer a series of excellent examples of the renowned cuisine of the Marche region, and organize musical entertainment shows. There is something to satisfy all tastes; from pure entertainment to rock music, from smooth to Latin American, up to classical music and opera, projected on special maxi screens.

Equally numerous are the events organized by the Pro-Loco, which collaborates effectively with the tour operators of the town. Restaurants, sports centers, bars and chalets, are facilities designed specifically to make your stay in Porto Potenza always varied and fun.

The gardens, squares, promenade (the latter equipped with free wi-fi) allow, after a day at the beach, to relax in the cool of the evening, perhaps enjoying a colorful cocktails or one of the exquisite ice creams produced by hand. The goliardic spirit typical of the Marches is best expressed in the characteristic events where gastronomy is the master: in June the maxi barbecue is held, in July the famous Brodetto is celebrated, a special fish soup, in August we meet for the Festival of Clams.

Consulting the program of the Pro-Loco, you can see the countless activities, from the arts and crafts markets to photographic exhibitions, passing through the guided tours of the architectural beauty of the place.

In fact, Porto Potenza Picena, in addition to being a valuable maritime destination is also history, architecture and culture. Recanati, the “native village wild” by Giacomo Leopardi is just seven kilometers away. At the center of the seaside village stands the suggestive Tower of S.Anna, of medieval construction.

In recent centuries, the tower had the function of defence and sighting against the raids of pirates and raiders coming from the Adriatic. After falling into a state of neglect throughout the Napoleonic period, with the unification of Italy it returned to the property of the Municipality, which provided for restore it.

The tower remains a splendid example of our architecture and hosts every 26 July the celebrations and the fireworks show in honor of St. Anna.

Next to the tower is the Church of St. Anne. His neo-Gothic forms, created on a project by Architect Eusebio Petetti, host a painting by Cavalier Perugino, a painter also known under the name of Gian Domenico Cerrini. The painting, which dates back to the 17th century, is titled “Virgin with Child among Saints Joachim and Anna”.

Villa Bonaccorsi is a magnificent example of an Italian garden. Originally from the 16th century, the villa has undergone different extensions, modifications and renovations. In the garden you can admire flower beds, hedges and rare plants, as well as statues representing mythological and grotesque figures, fountains, water games, caves and niches. The park, which extends across the hill, consists of five terraces, crossed in the middle by a long central staircase.

A few kilometers away from Porto Potenza you can visit the archaeological site of Potentia, the ancient Roman colony of the same name, founded in 184 BC and destroyed by an earthquake in 56 BC.

Inside the site you can see the Temple of Jupiter, a Domus with mosaic floors, remains of the covered market and buildings spas. The site was destroyed during one of the numerous barbarian invasions.

The history and the sea are an integral part of this town of about 7000 inhabitants. Particular mention deserves the costume reconstruction of 'fishing with the Sciabica”, from the name of the particular fishing net used in these lands. Women are waiting on shore for the return of the fishermen, who from the Lancette, the boats used, fall at dawn and sunset the nets in the Adriatic and then return. The fish caught ends in the Brodetto, a real delicacy of the place.

For night lovers, nightclubs and chalets offer guaranteed fun in an environment that is always tasteful and never exaggerated.

A special note deserves the area equipped for the stay of the Campers.

About 400 meters from the sea, in the Piazza Mercato area, it can accommodate 45 campers on individual areas of 35 square meters. The surface has night lighting, electricity connections, drinking water, waste bins, bathrooms and showers, and is able to satisfy every need of home lovers on wheels.

The beauty of the place is not a gift that rained from the sky. The prestigious Blue Flag is punctually regained by Porto Potenza thanks to a series of interventions and a very intelligent management of resources and waste. The municipality carries out an efficient separate collection. It may seem like a negligible detail, but it is a further guarantee of a healthy place, maintained in decorum and hygiene.

Porto Potenza is 25 km from Macerata and 40 from Ancona. It is easily reached by plane from the airport “Raffaello Sanzio” of Ancona-Falconara, or by car, via the A14 motorway. Coming from the North, the exit is that of Loreto-Porto Recanati,

while for those coming from the south you must exit at the Civitanova Marche toll booth. Perhaps even more convenient is the train, using which it will be enough to get off at the Porta Potenza Picena/Montelupone Station.
