Museo della Mail Art

The museum was founded in 1984, and had several locations, which were then abandoned. It was reopened in 2006 due to the Verdicchio Festival of Montecarotto, which is held once a year. In the gallery we find a collection of Mail Art, created by artists such as Vittorio Baccelli, Walter Pennacchi, Emilio Morandi, Anna Boschi and many others. It was Professor Bugatti who collected all these wonderful works over the years and then donated them to the museum.

Orto Botanico Ancona

The Botanical Garden is located inside the Gallignano forest and is managed by the Polytechnic University of Marche. It covers an area of 134,000 square meters. Inside there is the Botanical Garden, the forest is considered a 'protected floristic area' and is recognized as a 'botanical-vegetational emergency of exceptional interest'. Moreover, since 1998 it has been the “wildlife and hunting oasis” of the Province on the report of the Municipality of Ancona.

Palazzo del Governo

Built since the mid-1300s as the new headquarters of the city government, it is located in Piazza del Plebiscito. In 1470, the arch of the Rastello was initialized, which is also the main entrance to the courtyard. In 1484 Francesco di Giorgio Martini redesigned the whole building giving it a Renaissance look. Instead, in 1690 due to the earthquake, the frescoes by Melozzi da Forlì were destroyed by the collapses of the Council Hall, who had decorated the interior. From 1860 to today, it is the main seat of the Prefecture of Ancona.

Pinacoteca Comunale

The Municipal Art Gallery or the so-called Francesco Podesta Pinacoteca is located inside Palazzo Bosdari. Palazzo Bosdari dates back to 1973, and is one of the most important in the area. Currently it houses a large collection of works with a hundred paintings by artists such as Francesco Podesti, Carlo Camerino, Archangel of Cola and numerous artists of the past centuries. Another part of the Art Gallery hosts modern art with works by Cagli, Campigli, Cassinari, and other important contemporary artists. Admission to the Art Gallery is free of charge.

Palazzo del Senato

It is a historic building in the city of Ancona that was built in the twelfth century, and was erected as the seat of the Senatory Council. Between 1943 and 1944 he suffered bombings that seriously damaged him. In 1952 it was restored and today it is the seat of the Superintendence for Architectural and Environmental Heritage of the Marche. It has a high and narrow arch on the stone façade, as well as two orders of mullioned windows of elegant columns and covered with round frames.

Museo Archeologico Nazionale delle Marche

The Museum is a synthesis of historical and archaeological knowledge of the Marche region, from prehistory to the threshold of Romanization, only documented by finds from the excavation process. Used as a museum since 1978 it works as a museum, it was built in the mid-1500s and initially known as Palazzo Ferretti. In this museum we find a great archaeological heritage, documentation of the civilizations that followed in the entire Marche region from the Paleolithic to the High Middle Ages, such as bronze vases and shields, vases figurative penthouses, silver, etc. On the ground floor there are elements of the Roman section.

Anfiteatro Romano (I sec)

The Roman Amphitheater of Ancona was erected between the end of the first century BC and the beginning of the second century AD. The amphitheater could accommodate from 7,000 to 10000 spectators. Later it was no longer used as a performance building, but rather assumed the role of a fortress. Currently the appearance of the Amphitheater is that of an ongoing construction site due to the historical and urban layering of the area, with the overlapping of buildings such as the Church of San Gregorio and the Convent of San Bartolomeo.

Fontana Calamo

The Calamo Fountain is a historical monument. The construction dates back to 1560 by the architect Pellegrino Tibaldi. It is also known as the Fountain of 13 Cinnamels and represents one of the symbolic places of the center of Ancona. It is called the Fountain of 13 cinnamons because it is built from 13 masks, 12 bronzes and 1 in stone, representing satyrs and faunas. To return to the city, according to a tradition, you should drink the water that flows from the fountain.

Casino Dorico

Casino Dorico was a 19th century company, created by the Anconetan nobles. This organization was based in the Teatro delle Muse, and at that time it organized cultural meetings and various celebrations. Since the English bombing, in 1943, the headquarters of the company was damaged, and, subsequently, restructured with modern elements, without stopping these meetings of aristocrats nobles. Today the theater can be visited freely, both in the case of exhibitions and other events.
