This popular beach resort is located in the Marche region of Italy, on the crystal Adriatic Sea, and features over 7 miles of beautiful beaches. This lovely seaside town is also home to a small fishing port and thus seafood is on the menu in its many small restaurants and cafes.
Try eating by the beach for a fresh catch washed down with local wine. The town can trace its roots back to Roman times when the town was known as Fanum Fortunae named after the Temple of Fortune there. The locals are more than happy to remember this heritage and each year in July or August the festival Fano dei Cesari, which celebrates these Roman roots, is held for a week. During the festival you can expect arts and music, street-food, and various performances - finishing with a procession in full Roman costume. There are also chariot races which adults and kids alike will love.
The region benefits from a wonderful climate and can reach temperatures of 28°C in August, perfect for making the most of its famous coastline. For adventure seekers there is much natural beauty to take advantage of and a day-trip to the nearby Furlo Gorge, a mountainous chalk formation, is great for rambling and hiking and provides stunning views.
