During the Second Great War, the anti-Semitic dictatorship was the terrible protagonist. In Italy it was dictated by Benito Mussolini, who as soon as the War ended, was executed by the Italian partisans. LOMBARDY: event of historical importance: Dongo and Giulino di Mazzera. For lovers of historical tourism we recommend two places located in Lombardy, near Lake Como, which entered history as a stage for the executions of Benito Mussolini and the hierarchs of the fascism, after the Allied victory at the end of World War II.

Death occurred violently, but the historically proven elements are few regarding how the shooting of the Duce and his lover Claretta Petacci really took place. After losing the war in 1945, Mussolini, a former fascist dictator of the Italian Social Republic, was captured. It has not yet been established whether he escaped or if the Nazis were taking him to Germany on the orders of Hitler, but when the German truck he was traveling on was stopped by the partisan block, it was recognized and immediately arrested.

What happens next is still a mystery, since the alleged responsible for its execution, Colonel Valerio, the name of war of Walter Audisio, released four different versions with the pass time. The shooting order came from Milan, and on 28 April 1945, Benito Mussolini and Claretta Petacci were shot in front of the door of Villa Belmonte, in Via XXIV Maggio in Giulino di Mazzera, where still today a cross recalls the date of the incident.

In Dongo, a small village 20 km away from Giulino, the hierarchs of fascism were executed at 17.48, on the lakeside promenade (there are still signs on the wall). On 29 April 1945, the bodies were taken to Piazza Loreto, in Milan, where they remained exposed at the mercy of a fierce crowd.
