Imperia (18 Km)

Villa Grock

Villa Grock was the accommodation of Adrien Wettach, a well-known Swiss circus, until 1959. He was so impressed by the city of Imperia that he bought the villa in 1920, which became his permanent residence until the end of his days. When Grock died the villa, with the beautiful garden, they represented the testimony of the strength and melancholy of the so-called 'King of Clowns'. Today the villa houses in its interior the Clown Museum and the park is a point of reference for tourists.

Parrocchiale S. Giovanni Battista

The church of San Giovanni Battista is a place of Catholic worship of Cervo. The church is home to the homonymous parish of the vicariate of Diano Marina of the Diocese of Albenga-Imperia. The parish, named after St. John the Baptist, was built between the seventeenth and eighteenth century and is also known by the local name “dei Corallini”, because it was erected also thanks to the proceeds of fishing for the coral. The building is considered one of the major monuments in Baroque style on the Western Ligurian Riviera.

Oratorio di Santa Croce

Oratory of Santa Croce was built in 1690 by Marco Aicardi, and is the home of the Brotherhood of SS. Trinity. It was built to free the Christian prisoners in possession of the Turks. On the ground floor there are false arches, which are reminiscent of those of the main colonnade. At the rear is the triangular bell tower, surrounded by a characteristic seventeenth-century tip. Inside it we find erratic sculptures, such as the Pila dell'Acqua Santa, and several illuministic frescoes.

Parasio

The Parasio is in Porto Maurizio, in the area that starts from Piazza del Duomo, where the largest church in the whole of Liguria stands: the Cathedral of San Maurizio. It is the village with the largest number of historical monuments: just think of the Palazzo Pagliari of the fifteenth century, built on even older structures; at Palazzo Guarnieri of the 17th century, the convent of Santa Chiara, founded in 1365, with the famous Lodges dating back to 1714. The Parasio offers a wonderful view both to the mountains and the sea.

Oratorio di San Leonardo

The Oratory of San Leonardo, also known as the Oratory of Santa Caterina, dates back to the seventeenth century. After a significant restoration especially outside, the church returned to being a historic center of Porto Maurizio and an element of great importance of the historical and archaeological heritage of Imperia. In the church you can admire the best paintings by Gregorio Ferrari of Porto Maurizio: the Death of San Giuseppe by Sebastiano Conca; the Sorrows and the purgant souls; the statue of San Domenico and a chapel inside which you can find a small museum with the artifact of the Saint.
