This beautiful seaside resort many vacationers visit and revisit is located in the province of Lecce in the Apulia region of South Eastern Italy.
Though there is no recorded history on this small resort of 5924 inhabitants according to 2008 census, it has ample evidence to believe that it has been in existence during the times of the Romans. The best evidence is the watch tower that stands on a hillock by the see that has been used to keep watch for early detection of threats from the sea.
The beach of this tranquil resort becomes lively in the night with lively music and good food offered by its many restaurants.
This place is so well known for its night life that many people from cities far away visit this place to enjoy.
Its sea food and pasta are good treats for the diners.
Sea-food is made from fresh Mediterranean fish caught by the local fishermen. It is quite possible for this to be one of the reasons for food being so cheap there.
In addition to the wining and dining, Sannicola also offers some historic sites for tourists to visit. The main attraction of course is the Roma Guard tower that still stands like a sentinel looking at the sea for invaders.
There is a story of a princess being held captive in this tower and her dying for being separated from her lover through heart break.
There is also the 14th century castle built by Prince Pietro Lanza Braciforte. He has built it for his bride Eleonora Spinelli. Subsequently, many noble families have occupied it. One could imagine its old glory when looking at it even today.
There is also the Museum of Sannicola that offers a few ancient artifacts to the visitor who is inquisitive to know more about this beautiful place. The church of San Nicoal da Tolentino is also a place worth a visit.
