Walls, towers and gates Forte di Santa Tecla It was built in 1339 on the ancient remains of the homonymous church in the district of San Martino. Due to the military structure it was often used as a fortification to protect the city of Genoa. It was also used as a prison, during World War I, for Austrian prisoners. It is currently being guarded by Civil Protection volunteers.
Walls, towers and gates Torre della Ciapela The Ciapela Tower or “Torre dei Saraceni” is located in the center of the city, in the Piazza del Mercato. This was built around the 15th century to defend the city from Barbarian assaults, and was renovated after the mid-19th century. The building has a round plan, with a trunk-conical body and numerous openings for the fireplaces and the rifle shop. Many tourists were fascinated by the visit of this property.
Walls, towers and gates Porta San Giuseppe The Gate of St. Joseph was built in the fifteenth century together with the famous walls that include five other doors. The entrance is surmounted by a caditoia and is flanked by a fountain that, after a long period of degradation, have finally been restored.
