Grotte romane

They are an extraordinary example of stone quarries used by the Romans since the first century BC, in particular excavated by slaves. It is thought that from the bowels of the caves came out the blocks of stone with which the Poggio, Massignano was built and some monuments and churches of Ancona (perhaps even San Ciriaco).
