Grotta o Fosso delle Farfalle

The natural cave called Grotta delle Farfalle is located between San Vito and Rocca San Giovanni. The cave is excavated in the sandstone rock and, according to tradition, it periodically populates itself with butterflies. The surrounding environment is characterized by the presence of poplars and willows, as well as animals such as badger, faine and various types of small rodents. During World War II, the natural caves served as a refuge for many fleeing civilians.
