Above the shore of Lake Maggiore, in Arona, just outside the city, lies on a hill the statue of & lt; Strong>San Carlo Borromeo also called Sancarlone. From the street you can't see it, but it's really impressive looking from the lake. Observing it from a boat gives us the feeling that she is scrutinizing the lake.
Carlo was born in the castle of Arona from the Borromeo family and later became both cardinal and archbishop of Milan. His statue was commissioned by his cousin and turned out, until the 17th, the year in which the Statue of Liberty was built in New York, the largest statue in the world can be inspected from the inside. Originally, the project included it in marble but later it was made of copper. The Sancarlone is 35 meters tall, including a base, as much as a ten-story building! In front of him, it feels really small.
After paying for the entrance ticket, go up the staircase to the head. His nose is big enough to hold an adult standing. From his eyes and ears you can look out to admire a beautiful overview of both Lake Maggiore and the castle of Angera. The latter was built on a rock, and houses the famous doll museum.
Arona also offers space for many concerts on the occasion of the “Music Weeks of Stresa and Lake Maggiore”
