Porta San Sebastiano
The San Sebastiano Gate is part of the defensive walls of the Aurelian Walls and is one of the best preserved. It was called the Appian Gate and only in Christian times was it renamed “Porta San Sebastiano” because the way leads to the basilica and catacombs of San Sebastiano. The current appearance is due to the honorian makeover when the door was designed with only one fornice, while in the initial construction there were two.
