Reggia di Caserta

The Royal Palace of Caserta was the historic residence of the Bourbons of Naples. The building consists of 1200 rooms and 1742 windows and was built in 1845. It is surrounded by a magnificent park, divided into an Italian garden and an English garden. The Royal Palace turns out to be the largest royal residence in the world. The Royal Palace of Caserta, otherwise known as the Royal Palace of Caserta, is distinguished by its great particularity, being surrounded by an Italian and an English garden. Due to its size (about 2.5 km) it is considered the largest park in Europe. Charles III of Bourbon, given the extraordinary nature of the landscape, ordered the construction of the Royal Palace, whose construction ended in 1780. Inside the building are the royal park, numerous majestic fountains and the Palatina Library.

Reggia di Caserta

The Royal Palace of Caserta

The palace of Caserta was the last great building of the Italian baroque commissioned to the famous Italian architect Vanvitelli by Carlo III Borbone.

Although you can't visit each of its 1200 rooms, the ones you will see are as extravagant as they are exquisite. The majestic main staircase, whose 116 steps were all carved from one gigantic block of stone, is a perfect combination of rich marbles and dramatic perspectives. It leads to the marvelous 25 rooms of the royal apartments. Be sure to visit the jewel-like theatre, modeled after San Carlo.

The gardens are immense; stroll through the Bosco Vecchio (old wood), past the little castle built as a playhouse for the Bourbon princes, past the fish pond where mock sea battles were staged to amuse the members of the royal court, past the dolphin fountain and on to the fountain of Diana and Actaeon, a sculptural group as animated and enchanting as the one in Trevi Fountain.

Rest a while here, for you still haven't reached the loveliest section of the park, the English Gardens, embellished with a tiny lake and fake ancient ruins. We advise you to pay a visit to the Royal Palace at the sunset, when the rooms aswell as the garden, are enlighted by the warm rays of the sun in a very special way.
